Thanksgiving Feast

"Oh, there’s no place like home for the holidays,
‘Cause no matter how far away you roam,
When you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze,
For the holidays, you can’t beat home, sweet home."
- "Home For the Holidays".....(imagine it sung in Perry Como's voice)

We travelled to my parents' house for Thanksgiving and oh, what a feast we had! Of course the kids could not settle down the night of arrival; I caught Max reading at 11pm with Gramps while Gramps had "chair time."

And Sis was allowed (by her pushover dad) to snuggle on the downstairs couch "until she got sleepy." Hah! Like, in 2 more hours.

Wednesday was filled with pre-feast prep, and here I present to you the legendary red jello. My brother makes all sorts of pretenses that he is not a jello salad fan, that he's above a good jello-y dish, but I have proof (later) that this is not so. I myself ADORE the red jello. We made two dishes of it so that we'd have enough to dive into for leftovers.

Here is table #2, set for the big day. Look at our turkey, covered with a beach towel (over foil) to keep it warm. Spoiled bird.

Surprisingly, most of the fruit got eaten. I myself was wise enough not to waste good stomach space on healthy food.

Here is Sky, my brother, making the traditional Thanksgiving Punch, which I could down by the keg. But all we had on hand was a huge stainless bowl. I told him he looked like he was stirring Witches Brew....

....so he obliged me with a Witches Brew pose and cackle.

Let the feast begin! We had fun with my aunt Kathy & her family (Dennis, Kaylee, Cody, Kim) as guests and afterward played a rousing game of Scattergories, at which I am abysmally bad.

Is that Red Jello you are taking a huge bite of, Sky?....

...why yes, it is! I snapped a clandestine photo of your plate to prove it!

Mike seated himSELF at Mimi's kid table. I promise! I did not relegate him to the mini-chair; I am stating this for the record because years from now I will look at this photo and wonder to myself, "Why would I make him sit there?..."

So Future Crystal, you tried to change him with Isabelle and don't let him guilt trip you!

My plate of Nirvana On a Platter.

Thanks, Mom, for such an outstanding feast and jolly week! It was my best Thanksgiving in a long while, including the one spent at Disneyland!

You are such a cute writer. Totally an English major. Love it.

Why am I still awake? I'm off to bed.

See you in the morning. (I still haven't seen Mimi's hair yet IRL!)

Looks like a great time! I myself LOVE red jello. Your plate looks yummy, except for the stuffing and green bean casserole. I like all the sweet stuff...

I think your plate has inspired me to make myself a 9X13 of green bean casserole for lunch today. It shouldn't be a problem to have it all eaten and the smell gone before my Husband comes home from work (he can't stand the stuff). Glad you had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Yummmmmmm. I love red jello. Not stuffing. Red jello and rolls would be a good plate for me.

Love that you followed everyone around with a camera. Everyone needs a witches brew picture of themselves, I always say...

I'm so glad you had such a great holiday!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I am not a jello fan. I'm much rather eat brie and pears. Where were the pies?!

Love the "witch's brew!" Would you be willing to share that recipe with me? And my family are big JELLO fans so I'd love you recipe for that. Looks like you guys had a great feast! I'll have to remember your beach towel tip for our next bird.

I really liked seeing pictures of Mike. Seeing him sitting at "Mimi's table reassured me that he is the same ol' guy - so mellow and go with the flow! Tell Mike HI for me and thanks for posting a comment .

It looks like it was fun, and friendly, and just.... FAMILY! Your readers can actually feel the warmth and love that was there! What a fun trip!

That's the thing about living right in your family's laps... you never HAVE to go the distance to visit... but you also never GET to go the distance either! Make sense?

Jello, Brew and Green Bean casserole... who could ask for anything more???
