Last Day of School!

Oh, how I LOVE summertime! I love the freedom of setting my own schedule, I love the blue sky and happy, warm weather, I love filling our days with loafing and outings--depending on the mood. I'm so giddy with the feeling of summer days ahead! Go to the park! Go to the pool! Roast hotdogs up the canyon! Take the kids fishing! Little road trips to see family! Tour the cave up the canyon! Hiking! Trail running (not THIS year--sniff)! Sidewalk chalk! Backyard picnics with my friends and all the kids!

This year I haven't scheduled the kids for a thing--not even swimming lessons. I plan to ride out the end of this pregnancy (3 weeks!), have the baby, and just let the summer days roll. I love to be out & about in the summertime...but on my own terms. No school, no lessons, nothing but laid-back "what should we do today?" Yay!

Today as the kids got off the bus on their last day of school, a few moms were waiting to surprise them with water balloons and water guns. Thanks to my friend Emily's fun idea, this was the PERFECT way to kick off summer!

Afterward, we went to Ali's house for a "School's Out Party." We ate pizza & chips and the moms sat and talked while the kids played their guts out. It was a perfect way to welcome the lazy days ahead.

I caught THE FUNNIEST EVER pictures of Mimi, doing "splits" on Ali's trampoline.

How fun! Smart idea to not overschedule the summer with little Lima Bean coming soon! Hope you are feeling good. If you are like me the last month or so of pregnancy, you are probably feeling like your crotch is ready to rip apart!!!! Good times!

You guys are all out so early! We have two more weeks. I'm so not into over scheduling the boys during the summer. I hate to be tied down. Maybe one camp, for like a week, MAYBE. Our neighborhood moms do the water balloon bombs too, then we do an ice cream party in the culdesac. Our first year here one mom even rented a snow cone machine!

Summer sounds DIVINE the way you describe it!! And I adore the pics of Mimi. Perfect captures of kid-ness.

I feel the same way about summer...on the days that I am not attacked by my "I'm BORED!" children. We've been out a week and it's already started. Why oh why can't they be lazy with me??

You are so wise to leave things unstructured. I need to just relax and not feel like I have to entertain everybody...I love your attitude!

AWESOME IDEA about the water baloons! My kids would love it!

What a fun way to usher in the summer - I love the idea of water balloons - I pick mine up from school, so I might have to wait until we get home to do it - but consider your idea just stolen girl!

I refuse to believe in summer until it warms up. Right now, it's still winter in my book.

That sounds like alot of fun. It's nice to hear how you are doing. It was one of the few days it was warm enough to be summer. Are you controlling the weather? Your hot aren't you and you are making it cool to make your last month more comfy!JK

Crystal-I can't believe how big Mimi is. I saw your blog on Wendi's blog and thought I would say hey.
Hope you have your baby soon! Good luck!

great idea!! i love the no structure, no camps, no planning kind of summer. sure the kids may get bored (at my house not yours!) but that's what imagination is for!!
