In the Fetal Position, Rocking Back & Forth in a Corner

* Tonight I was in charge of the combined Youth activity.
* We did a photo scavenger hunt.
* I am exhausted.
* It was fun.
* It could have gone more smoothly.
* I wish I had more thoroughly thought through every nuance.
* I think the kids had fun.
* I think the adults were ready to go home.
* I am drained.
* I don't like it when my activities turn out chaotic--it makes me feel like a failure.
* I wanted to cry during the 2nd half of the night.
* It felt like the activity was driving ME, instead of me driving the activity.
* I expect near-perfection of myself. It's tiring.
* Dawnell brought fondue for refreshments. A big hit.
* We finished the night with no chocolate drizzles on the floor. Amazing.
* We had a huge group show up. That's good.
* It was difficult to get their attention. That's bad.
* I had to stop myself from going into full-on Mean Teacher Mode.
* I was voted Meanest Teacher when I taught 7th grade. Smirk.
* I wish I could have a do-over of this night.
* I would think through every little detail and plan better. Sigh.
* Next time I'm in charge, we'll just play dodge ball.

Dodge. Ball.

I'm sure the kids really appreciated you. Some of the less smoothly ran activites are the most memorable for the kids right? Plus all the leaders were just glad they didn't have to think of the activity for the week and were thankful to you too! Yummy fondue idea how could anything be that bad when there is chocolate involed!!!:)

I had a photography class so I missed mine completely. They went to the bishops store house for our joint act. and had a tour.

I'm taking a family picture up the canyon this weekend I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh Crystal you are way too hard on yourself. I bet it was a great big hit!!!!! You know the kids LOVED it. Hey at least you're done, right?

Details. I need details! What did you do, what would you change, what worked, what didn't? Please?

I am bettin' they loved it. It is so hard to be prepared for each and every scenario. You should pat yourself on the back. You haven't lost your comedic timing...I loved the title!

The kids loved it. It was a super idea. I remember trying to get 25 activity day girls' attention..I wanted to cry..I can't imagine trying to manage all the youth. You did an awesome job!!

It is very tiring when you expect near-perfection of yourself, dang it.

You taught 7th grade??

I can only imagine the excitement over the fondue...

It's hard to be in charge of a big activity like that, I'm sorry you feel like it was chaotic. The kids are oblivious to such things and probably loved it.

Dodgeball would be a totally fun and easy activity, you should definitely do that next time you're in charge. And remember "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."

oh crystal...any time spent with you would be a blast...I'm sure that the kids had a blast, but I agree it is frustrating when things don't work out like they do in your head.

I was there. You couldn't possibly have thought through it anymore than you already did.

The only thing that you could have done is have a crystal ball if you want to foresee all the details.

That's why you are a good leader and a good teacher--both have to be able to think on your feet and roll with the punches.
