I am exhausted.
I spent all evening yesterday & most of the day today cleaning my house in order to show it to a prospective buyer. I consider myself a somewhat tidy person, but there's nothing like seeing your rooms through someone else's eyes to make you SEE YOUR CLUTTER. I whipped through every single room, trying hard to make it devoid of anything that would draw the eye to a clutter spot. I wanted the rooms to seem open, airy, pleasant and, well, roomy.
And it was hard work!
Now, I just want it to stay this way. The entire house is clean at one time...when does that ever happen? We got a good start on it last weekend when I cracked the whip and I honestly thought it wouldn't take long to get it ready to show. Um, nope.
I'm going to try in the next week or so to be extra attentive to setting aside a time for my kids to pickup. We do after-school jobs and they usually have to pick up their bedroom floors before bed, but the "kid stuff" that is scattered here and there throughout the house starts to accumulate. I think maybe as part of our evening routine, everyone in the family will be in charge of a different room and be responsible for getting back into the state it is now. (Is it obvious that I am feeling tense? I worked fast & furious and I dread tomorrow's breakfast mess.) I did have Mike's help last night--he deep-cleaned while I picked up kid-litter. ("kiddy litter!" ha! a new colloquialism is born!) He also spiffed up the garage and then inside today from 4-6pm. And I think I broke the child labor laws today, ordering all three kids around. But still. I just really want it to stay perfectly clean. It feels so good! I don't know if that's real life, though.
Okay. Enough obsessing. Here is a peek into the master bedroom. I usually keep this door closed because there is laundry being folded or toys on the floor. It's nice not to have to worry about it being cycloned if the door is open & someone arrives unexpectedly.

I did a massive clearing of my desk.

Somehow, I've got to keep it this way--even though the calendar and school papers will need to come back out of hiding. Also, I need to find a magnet board or something to display the pictures and notes the kids give me; it makes me happy to look at those kid scribblings.
If this house sells, we will move across the street to the new house. And hopefully we will be able to stay there after a disappointing financial year. I love my neighborhood and ward and feel very at home here.

Your home is absolutely beautiful!!I bought a really cute magnet board on etsy. I think the sellers name was steeldreamdesigns. I'll email you the link.
Exausted- just reading!
I hope they like it- gorgeous...
They are both gorgeous. I'd take either of them in a heartbeat!
Crystal, are you guys moving? Where? There's a great house right next to me, come on, it would be so fun!!! I LOVE your house, it's gorgeous! You make me tired just reading.
Okay, so obviously I didn't see that you are moving next door! Guess I missed that, sorry, but hey there really is a cute house next to me if you change your mind. Hope things go how you want them to. You're so darling Crystal, I wished I saw you more.
Your house is beautiful! I hope everything works out and you are able to sell.
Can you belive all the papers that come home with the kids!!! I just love seeing their faces come home from school but the papers kill me!!! Your home is gorgeous.I'm sure they both are. After moving you will be sooo clean and clutter free. Good luck selling you house.
GORGEOUS! way to go! and good luck keeping it all neat and tidy. my friend confessed she uses a light saber to get everything out from under her kids beds, EVERY NIGHT! Swoop, pick that crap up! she's a little OCD but it would totally be easier to keep on top of if you did it daily.
i'm just glad i don't have to show my house. but i'd be THRILLED to have a super clean and decluttered house. this is me covetting.
It looks awesome! Good job...I love the feeling of a clean home only if it is for a second :-) I'm currently eating a pear with brie and I thought of you during my lunch.
I wish I had your kitchen and home! I love it and all the mouldings too!
Great find for your food storage - $1/box cereal! Where did you find a steal like that? I've been trying to do the same thing as you as far as food storage - pantry meals. My girlfriend started me on it...pick 7 meals that your kids will eat and come from the pantry. Her thought process pick 7 meals (which takes care of one week of dinners) and try to get a year supply of those. One easy meal is canned peaches and spaghetti.
Good job on the clean house! I love that! Nothin like smellin' cleaning products!
I'm SO crossing my fingers!!! I would love for you to be able to move into the other house, or sell that one, or whatever! Good Luck!
May I just say that your house is GORGEOUS! I betcha' the one across the street is a beauty, too :)
Great job on the hard work. My house is never clean in every spot all at once.
Here's hoping you sell! It's beautiful! I am sure you will sell it quickly!
can I buy it? Then we could be neighbors and I could live in a fancy house!
The house looks amazing....you did an perfect job at staging for anyone to be impressed. Good luck and I hope this coming year is full of big things for you guys!
I'm giddy to see some pictures of your house, it's gorgeous!
I think staying on top of things is hard to do if everyone doesn't help, so you are wise to get the kids in on the cleaning. I think assigning them a room each night is a great idea.
I am sorry to hear that you are trying to sell! I love the layout of your home! Can't they just buy the house across the street??? I love the 'clean' smell too, but I cheat to acheive that smell...I light a candle! LOL
Now if you could only come do my house. I should pretend that I have people coming to buy and make mine that spotless. Do you have storage? Or do you just have no stuff? I'm such a collector that I doubt I could ever get my house looking so spotless. Help! Tell me your tricks!?!
