Last week for Family Night we played this game from The Friend called "Time to Decide." We drew cards that gave scenarios the kids might encounter at school and then they gave examples of courageous actions when it was Time to Decide. I hope my children have enough of a solid spiritual foundation that when they are faced with Times to Decide, they will react with an automatic response that brings goodness to the world.
I've really been trying to use The Friend magazine in our Family Nights--it's such an easy way to incorporate gospel teachings. I've also been trying to relinquish control and put the kids in charge of planning, but it's become clear that will be a learning process. They listen much better when they themselves plan it, though.

Well there you are! I was wondering what had happened to you :) Good Things Utah was so much fun! We went to Macy's at the South Towne Mall. They have a huge denim department. I tried on alot of different styles until we came up with what worked with my shape. They were definalty fitted, but suprisingly comfortable. I guess the real trick is trying on a lot of styles. I have never done that before. Good to hear from you! talk to you soon.
Nice to see your name pop up! Good ideas to take the opportunity at the park with the good weather!
Our FHE gose so smoothly when Im in good mood and ready to play and have fun then the spirital part take scare of its self at the end. everyone is happy and ready to listen.
I'm jealous of your peaches. I was out of town and I think I missed them. Do you know if they are still any somewhere? I want bushels.
i hope you are not still on the chair.....I have gotten the friend magazines that i have and thought about doing something with them......not sure what just yet, maybe read theM??????
the picture with the shoe going down the slide - it's a dick and jane story! oh, oh, oh! look, look! see the shoe go! see baby joe's shoe go! go, shoe, go!
We take turns giving the lesson at our house and it works, but on the weeks the kids give the lesson I have to keep myself from taking over too much. Their version of a lesson and mine are pretty different.
I need to use The Friend Magazine more. When it's my turn to teach I often adapt something we heard at church that day.
FHE is pretty simple here since our boys are so young. We use the GAK (aka Gospel Art Kit) and teach them 2-3 stories per week from those pictures. We've done all the BofM pics and I'm amazed at how many of the stories they remember just from hearing them once.
So this is what we do: We have a lesson on Sunday and an activity on Monday. Because I remember as a kid HATING that FHE was soooo long. And because on Monday, FHE is so much more doable (after piano, and HW and dinner) if all I have to do is get out a game, or take the kids for a walk, or make a treat. And if we aim for 2, we ALWAYS get at least one.
Where you peeking into my life recently? We did the exact same thing: Park with Fun Families! I am also giving up control and letting them take charge (mark off those Duty to God & Faith in God Books!) We also just started playing the game SEEK. Kind of a trivial pursuit game I used to play when I was very young with my family.
Hey look another blog post from you! Hooray!
Your park is awesome btw.
We are so sporadic with FHE. I hate that. We do really well and then we fall off the wagon. I am going to initiate a rotating schedule, I think the kids need to learn how to do a lesson.
Using The Friend is wonderful!
