I got a few boxes of peaches last week and over the course of the week did a lot of peeling and cutting. And snacking.
...with a break to watch Jack pop peas in his mouth.
This was my first time making peach jam and the aroma was intoxicating! For some reason, the aroma reminded me of the old Strawberry Shortcake doll named Baby Apricot--remember her? Anyway, i kept leaning over the pot and inhaling deeply and my kids all thought I was weird.
I stopped to admire my new pot, which was a result of burning my first batch and fusing the boiling peaches to the bottom of the pot. I love the deep red color. It's just a cheap walmart pot, but it's HUGE.
And here is tonight's payoff! Why are kitchen activities so cathartic to me?
My weekdays are taking on a delightfully predictable routine and I'm finding I am snapping photos of the same moments of each day; kids launching off to school, morning hair-dos, Baby on our morning walk, naptime sweetness, etc. More on that tomorrow. And Mimi had a birthday; more on that tomorrow, also. Happy Monday tomorrow, everyone!
Oh, and also--I watched this video today and it lifted my spirit.
It's got a glimpse of the amazing Stephanie Nielsen in it, which brought the message that much more poignancy.
I'll be finding a way to load it on my ipod and go for some time alone up the canyon.

I love the smell of peaches and I totally remember the Strawberry Shortcake dolls and their smells.
Jack is getting so big! He's so adorable!
I love the smell of peaches and basically anything cooking, so I would totally be inhaling deeply. Although the thought of it smelling like a Strawberry Shortcake doll is a little disturbing to me!
I find kitchen activities to be cathartic as well and love your new pot!
Ah, that picture of the canyon...
That pot is gorgeous...you are awesome to to make peach jam. I can smell it from here. I've never canned anything in my life, although I've watched my mom do it!
I love that you made peach jam! Fun!! where and when do you do your morning walk? We should hook up!
mmmmm....I can just about smell them. And Baby Apricot!
I'm impressed. And I wish I had the gumption to take on a project like that.
I lived on fresh peaches this summer! With my 24 hour morning sickness it was the ONLY thing that ever sounded good.
There is nothing more satisfying than admiring your hard work at the end of the day. What a yummy filled countertop you had!
Loved those strawberry shortcake dolls. Every now and then I run across something that smells like they did and I close my eyes and feel like I'm 8 again.
Welcome back!!!! Tell me ALL those boxes weren't yours? Just a couple? Not all??? If they were ALL yours - you rock!!!! (and I'm sure you are very regular after consuming so many peaches)
