Easter Weekend

Mimi at the egg hunt in the park.

Easter weekend (last week) was relaxed and fun. On Saturday morning, we went to the park for the city egg hunt, which was well-organized and fun for my kids. There were different "hunting grounds" partitioned off by age, so I didn't see too much of Max & Sis wildly scavenging for eggs. Mike went with Isabelle & I supervised Mimi. Max went off by himself, which I am still becoming accustomed to. It feels so strange--and liberating!--to have a kid old enough to self-supervise. I had the camera, so most photos are of Mimi. She was so cute!

She threw herself wholly into it, running and darting for eggs.

Here is Isabelle, at the end of her hunt.

I was curious to see if Max, being the ripe old age of 9, would get into it or if this year he would hang back and try to play it cool. It made me smile to see him run around full-throttle, gathering eggs. There is some little boy left in him yet, it seems. Phew!

I gathered them for a picture, during which time Sis tried to snatch a smooch from Max. Typical brother smooch-reflex here.

That evening we dyed eggs. I got a kick out of these pudgy little fingers.

Mimi, waiting for her pink egg to turn "pink enough." She kept checking it and then proclaiming, "It's not pink enough yet!" It was fuschia. But apparantly not pink enough.

Saturday night we watched a movie about the last days and resurrection of Christ, which was the perfect ending to our day. I love our cozy FHE movie nights; I really feel the Spirit strongly with us when the kids are all nested up on the couch and so willing to learn about the gospel. They are much more quiet and attentive during these times than they are when I'm giving a lesson. I am always a little surprised at how powerfully visual media delivers a message. My kids really soak up the church dvd's, paying close attention while we watch and asking questions for days afterwards, at random times.

Sunday morning they found their baskets from The Bunny and we had plenty of time to get ready for church--one of the perks of 1pm church! It was relaxing to have time to enjoy Easter morning together and not be in a rush. Mimi was irked at the Bunny for not bringing a basket for Lima Bean. Oops.

easter pictures at last! i love that red-cheeked egg hunt fun. was there ulterior motive in wanting a basket for LB, do you think? who would be expected to consume it? i don't suppose they intended to save it until June, did they??

That looks like such a fun weekend! I love all the pictures of your kids. They are SO cute! Max reminds alot of my Brekkon. It is good to still see the little boy in them. I hope I see it for a few more years yet.

No fear on losing that little boy for a few years. My 14 yo ds was running like a nut and gathering candy for the 3 yo as his excuse!

Your kids are so precious, and so cute at the egg hunt. Your kids remind me so much of mine! (which I guess sounds a bit presumptuous, since I just said how adorable they are, ha ha!)

PS- "Mahna, Mahna" is now a household song thanks to you and we visit your site daily so my boys can laugh-out- loud watching it :) Thanks for the smiles and a trip down memory lane!

Way cute pictures of your kids. Glad they had a fun Easter. Your baskets are cute, are they fuzzy?

I love that Mimi asked about a basket for the baby. When I was prego and Halloween was approaching my oldest said we needed to get the baby a pumpkin bucket for trick or treating!

At least they understand what is coming :)

My son is 9 too and he is still way into Easter Egg Hunts. Who can resist candy? Nine year olds definitely understand what they're doing.

It just hit me that Max is only 9! Your kids are going to love being close in age. Your amazing. I love the brother reflex. I think I caused that a couple of times growing up with 3 brothers. Cute pink sweaters too!

Your kids are aba-daba-dorable! I looooove those pink sweaters! Where did you get them?

On the 'witching hour' note. I'm glad, and knew I wasn't the only one. But cool that we call it the same thing. :) And I take a time out for myself AFTER I'm done screaming and throwing toys, so don't feel bad. I think I will start calling myself 'WitchMom' too! Hehe, if you don't mind...
I read your 3/17 post (again) and laughed, because I do the same thing! I'm always the one to ruin the tranquility...hubby leaves it to me. And when I'm mad at them for not going to sleep, I go in their room and do my usual ranting and raving, and then I can't leave the room with out yelling or grumbling or screetching "I LOVE YOU!" too. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I just don't want them to think that just because I'm mad that I don't love them...but maybe saying it in such a mean growly way, isn't the best...eh? Maybe one day I'll learn?

Nice to know we are only human and all in the same boat. :) Thanks for the comment...I always love it when you do! :)

Lima Bean needed a basket too! I guess you could have passed on his chocolate to him.
Mimi is simply adoreable. I just want to squeeze her cheeks.

I know what you mean about the joy and strangness of having a child old enough to self-supervise...it is kinda weird to me...That was sweet of Mimi to be concerned that little Lima Bean didn't get a basket. You should tell her to give you some of your candy and you would swallow it and basically Fed Ex it straight to Lima Bean ;)

shron said...

i'm with lauren about fed-exing chocolate to lima bean. those sweaters are the cutest best thing for an egg hunt!

crystal said...

Oh, not to worry. I've been giving Lima Bean chocolate via Special Delivery for MONTHS, now.

Poor Lima will have to detox off chocolate in ICU at the hospital.

That Mimi is too cute -- she lives up to the cuteness of her name.

You really have such a way of making things so special at your house. I love it!

How could you forget lima bean? After all he needs all kinds of toys and junk at this age. LOL Mimi is such a doll. I wanted another little girl. I miss this stuff. Oh well, I will just live it through you with Mim. LOVE those little hands making super pink eggs. Awwww
