SPT: Extra! Extra!

Lelly's SPT challenge this week "...is to photograph something that is extra special about you. it might be a physical feature, a talent, or an unknown secret. this spt is all about you!"

Alrighty. This was difficult for me. To be completely honest, I got a little depressed trying to think of something special because I couldn't think of anything; I usually only pick out negative things about myself. That's pathetic! Seriously, though. I've thought & thought since Friday and....nothin'. (insert mental image of my grumpy face) Although, Max made my day when he heard me grumbling aloud about my lack of special traits and offered up, "You're the best Mom!" as a trait. I love that kid.

Phew. Just getting that out of my system and writing it down all officially made me realize I really should work on finding things to appreciate and love about myself. So here's what I finally came up with:

* I talk REALLY fast
* I'm open-minded & accepting

* I love people...being with others, listening to others, talking with others, sitting around a campfire and shootin' the breeze with others...you get the picture

* I try really hard to be organized...
but my house usually looks like this:
* I love to cook and experiment with recipes, and I LOVE to feed people
My natural disposition happy and upbeat and I love to laugh
Nana says I'm like a ray of sunshine (the best compliment anyone has ever given me & I've treasured it for the 11 years since she first said it).

Sheesh! That was not easy. Lelly, next week can you give us a no-brainer, like...."what's your favorite toenail polish?"

The shoe pile really makes me feel better. You are also a very good writer, creative and I think you are beautiful! Oh and you do lots of extra special things with your kids! Is that a talent? I think so.

You do have Beautiful eyes! Great nails too :) I might have to check out Lelly and this SPT.

Humble, that's a great trait to have Crystal.:) Along with all those other wonderful things.

Right now, my pantry looks like your shoe pile!

I think that was a very nice post! I know it can be hard to think about ourselves (especially when we are moms), but I guess that's a good thing...like teresa said "humble".

Great one! You have pretty eyes and teeth too! All of those things you mentioned are talents.

This was a hard challenge. It totally challenged me. I couldn't think of anything special, so I listed a bunch of ordinary things.

I think one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was write an entire paper about myself/my qualifications to apply to the teaching program at ASU. It's amazingly impossible to "toot your own horn".

From what I can tell you are brilliant, funny, and an awesome writer too!

Sandi said...

Those are all good things. Way to go and you have great nails and beautiful eyes.

love that one! not having the privilege of meeting IRL, I have to say that each of those traits come across in your blog :)

I really like to think I'm an organized person, but since having kids my organization seems to have flown out the window. I'm amazed anyone's pantry can look like that.

kara jayne said...

I could've written that exact same post...only it was my mom who called me (and still does) a ray of sunshine. The best thing is when your siblings call you that too...a benefit of being the youngest!

Hopefully we can shoot the breeze at blogapalooza!

You are beautiful!!! Those shoes are nothting compared my husband's 13 pair of tennis shoes in my closet

Your pantry is very clean. Ignore the pile of shoes and just stare lovingly into the neat and tidy shelves. That would be my strategy.

You are GREAT! Find more good about yourself and keep sharing. Don't be so mean to the girl we all love!

Do you live in DC, cause they talk really fast here, too!
I have a Max also. He's a little too little to say I'm the best Mom, but I know he's thinking it! Max's are very cool!

That Nana is one smart lady! You ARE a ray of sunshine!

P.S. My shoe pile is currently all over the house. Organized chaos? Nope. I bet only four are in pairs. Just chaos. :)

Crystal,
I loved reading this post. There are truly so many many many many many awesome things about you. My favorite being, that you are just real and you do things to make people feel good about themselves, what an awesome quality. So what is this SPT thing, let me know, I like doing things like that on my blog. You seriously are the cutest. Love your guts.

Bond Girl 007 said...

oh I have really enjoyed reading this, and found we are a like on some of the things. I do like your pantry!

Amanda :-) said...

Urrrr! Is that cupboard real, or was that a joke? Do you really stack your tins like that? So Warholesque? Please tell me that was a stage shot!

So you talk really fast? I imagine you talk with your hands too. Am I right?

Jill said...

This is why I enjoy SPTs so much, because even simple topics turn profound. Plus, we would never capture these things on our blogs if we didn't do this every week. Good job!

Cara @ Gardenview Cottage said...

those are all wonderful traits and again, wish we were neighbors!!! You could also put on there very good at giving complements!

michelle said...

This was a difficult one for me as well. Being the best mom and being really open-minded and accepting, those are extra special for sure!
