I am sitting here with my Cafe Rio tortilla in one hand, trying to figure out how to type one-handed as I scarf (yes, scarf!) my tortilla-dipped-in-house-dressing.
Today was a pretty typical day for me: I gathered up my 60 library books (voracious readers at my house), drove to the library with Mimi & returned them, then drove far out of my way to accommodate Mimi's craving for Cafe Rio rice. At first I was grouchily doing this, and then I began to crave tortillas. We returned home just in time to greet my friend's two kids, whom I watch every Wednesday as part of a mom-switch; she watches Mimi every Monday. We do this to enable each other to volunteer in the 1st grade classroom. (Just typing that out loud increases my volunteerism-satisfaction level...) I called Max's teacher & got myself on the schedule for his classroom, also. So I'll be at school every Monday from 12:30-2:30 and then back again every Thursday from 9:30-11:30 to help with the Take Home Reading program. (volunteerism satisfaction thermometer rising as I type...) I am a big believer in being a part of my kids' classrooms; I like having my finger on the dynamic, both of the teacher with my child and of my child's social interaction.
At 3:30 I met Wendi to get our nails done together, which was a treat. I am usually ready to expire from boredom when I get out of there, but today I was having fun friend time! I was forced to practice my Stuart Smalley Daily Affirmations, though, because Wendi has perfect willowy hands and I have....Man Hands. *sigh* (see bottom clip: 1st 1:45)
I do like my non-dangly earlobes, though. See! Affirmation!
Then I came home and made a delicious dinner for my family, showing my love and devotion via culinary affection. Yep, Ramen. I was tired! It was 5:50pm! Enough said. Tomorrow is another day (Scarlett O'Hara-style).
Here are some more pictures from the Thanksgiving holiday at my parents' house. Below, Max is exhibiting his Rubiks Cube prowess! The kid can solve the cube (with a cheat sheet that gives him a few moves of guidance). My mom set up her tree and had the kids put on the ornaments, which I considered to be an act of love and patience. Thanks, Mom! They are still talking about it.
Mimi, of course, got to put up all the Barbie ornaments. She kept trying to take them off again and play with them. Again, patience and love.....!
This is official documentation of Sky's inheriting the gene for "Chair Time," my Dad's favorite form of relaxation.
Max conquered the tree! And spent time spying on the neighbor's backyard activities and also fighting the resident squirrel for Tree Time.
The van is loaded and ready to pull out for the drive home. You keep smilin', buddy.
Sis has emotional trauma every time she has to say goodbye to Grannie. It's heart-wrenching to watch and causes ME emotional trauma! There I am, saying goodbye & trying to be a big girl, and then Sis' wails of distress cause me to unravel.
She actually said a well-adjusted farewell this time, but has been crying herself to sleep for three straight nights. Tonight seems to be a bit better; I snuggled in bed with her for a while and we made an agenda of Christmas activities for Grannie's December visit. That seemed to bring her emotions into check. (crossing my fingers)
***HEY!*** I forgot to add that I got up at 6:30am to haul my tired self to the gym! After a night of revelry at Chili's until 12:00am the night before! (exercise satisfaction increasing as I type...)

Okay girl! You're my freaking hero! you went to the gym at 6 a.m when you were out til midnight! Wow you're awesome!!!
I LOVE your man hands clip! One of my favorites!! I can't imagine that you have man hands. We'll have to compare next time I see ya. Cuz I have serious man hands!!!
ha ha ha
You crack me up. I love your blog. I found you two different ways
1. Kristin (Birdo-my BYU roomie)
2. Hot Mama
Two totally unrelated people who don't know each other both led me to you! You and Kristin seem to have such similar personalities. I love it.
how funny that you ended up going to the gym so early...that is great though... But Chillis is always awesome
we use an old milk crate to tote our library books to and fro. try it - it's easier on the back and they books don't go flying all over the car!!
attached earlobes rock!!
the chair that sky is "resting" in is exactly like my couch. it even reclines. see we must be related!! your mom and i have the same taste in furniture!
and you go on getting to the gym!! gosh i feel so much better when i get some endorphins going! and my family likes it too!
I love Seinfield. Thank you so much for that clip. I laughed myself silly. Sad thing is I remember watching every single one of those episodes.
Hope Isabel is feeling better today.
Wow, you did have a busy day and got up to go to the gym, my hero!!
I'm very proud of your parent volunteering, next step...PTA president?
Ok, first of all, Cafe Rio is on the list of pros for moving to UT. Now I can add "getting manicures with Crystal". It's much more fun when you do it with a friend. Then having a friend to switch littles with so you can actually volunteer at your kids' school would be nice. Don't have that either. Pro list is growing.
Julie: DREAM ON.
Awww....my kids do that when we leave Grandma's house too! It's so sad. But then I remember doing it when I left my Grandma's also...so, it's genetic...or love, or something!
I have total man-hands too but I have hangy ear-lobes which will be two inches long by the time I'm 96.
We have that trauma when we leave Grandma's and she lives less than a mile away - I can't imagine it, if we actually had to leave her sometime.
seriously...you are awesome!!
My Janie freaks out everytime we leave Grandma's house too! It's so sad when they're so close to your kids but so physically so far away. Poor girl! It's hard for them, I know.
I'm so jealous that you got your nails done! That sounds like so much fun!!
Tam
As I sit here eating my dark chocolate peppermint truffle, I am in awe of your determination to go to the gym! I have good intentions to start walking again, but darn it, it's 25 degrees outside!
The picture of Mimi with the ornament is adorable!
Love your affirmations, volunteerism, and exercise dedication. Oh yeah, and your man hands--too funny!
Man hands? NO way. And I still say your nails turned out better than mine. Lamb! Lam?! =)
Wendi- Lame? !!!
Ditto to everyone.
Gym hero.
Volunteer hero.
Man hands hero.
Ramen hero.
You're awesome!!
That pic of sister and you at the end is heart wrenching. How sad. Did you grow up there? And move to UT? Or did your parents move away? The 6 hr. distance must be tough. :(
I feel your pain about having man hands, I feel like that too. In fact, yesterday I was at Stake Conference admiring the hands of a woman in front of me. She had one of them on her husband's back so I had a front row view and could not stop staring. I actually wanted to tell her "You have the most gorgeous hands I've ever seen!" but then decided against it for fear she'd think I was a Stake Conference Stalker of sorts.
