What's a pregnant girl to do when she has insomnia? I'm on a "no drugs" policy, and I need my sleeping pills! I'm worried that this may be the start of one of my week-long insomnia marathons. If so, at least I can count on Cecily to be up into the wee hours. (I'll be calling you, friend!) She seriously keeps vampire hours. Cecily, if you're reading: Are you one of the undead?
So today was a marathon day; we all left the house at 12:30noon-ish and got home at 11:30pm. Poor Max was so upset. He's such a little homebody and kept saying, "Can't we just go HOME?" Mimi's Christmas dance recital was today and ended around 2:30pm. By an amazing stroke of luck, I scored tickets to the Mormon Tabernacle Christmas Concert and Mike's parents offered to watch the kids (thankyouthankyouthankyou). So we drove to Grandpa & Grandma's, visited for a while, then left for the concert. (It was amazing; more about that tomorrow) Watch Music & the Spoken Word tomorrow! (Sunday) The King's Singers were guests at the concert and they will also be on Music & the Spoken Word.
By the time we got home, it was 11:30 and the kids were burnt out! And poor Max. He gets the nervous shakes if he's away from his stuff for too long. He has to be able to obey the impulse to compulsively create a kooky craft--or at the very least, to sit down for a manic lego-building session--and feels adrift without his supplies nearby. He feels secure with his own belongings, his own cozy bed, his own dvd's or his own computer nearby.
Mimi, on the other hand, was in heaven with Grandma's 4,554,312 Polly Pockets to play with.
Isabelle was evidently having a blast raiding and pillaging Grandma's rather, ahem, extensive toy collection.
The last few days have been barren of baking & I'm going through withdrawals! So here's what I have planned:
Monday - chocolate & caramel pretzels; graham cracker houses that night for FHE
Tuesday - Haystacks
Wednesday - Toffee
Thursday - My secret batch of sugar cookies, not for kids! Only for me to decorate!
Friday - Fudge (to give away this time)
I'll also be making & posting some easy recipes that are holiday staples in my family: "Thanksgiving Punch" and the famous red jello. I'm also going to try to get around to doing a post on Nanimo Squares, the most decadent treat in the universe.
Who wants to come help me, said the Little Red Hen?
Tomorrow my lesson in Primary will be so fun! Here's the plan:
*Set out my Nativity-oriented Christmas books and let them each pick one for me to read aloud while they sit on the floor and eat treats.
* Watch some of the church Nativity dvd
*Make their sheep (they are going to be shepherds next week, travelling to find the baby Jesus)
That's probably all we'll get to, even though I'd like to do a flannel board activity. Do any of you even use flannel boards ever? I pulled it out last week and all my kids said, "What's that?" I said, "A flannel board, DUH."
I guess I will go read Mike's gun mail-order catalog. That ought to put me right out. Why didn't I think of that before? Good nighty-night!
(Call me, Cec. I'll be up.)

I would totally help you bake all of those yummy things, but only if you let me taste test...It's a bummer (for me) I live 2000 miles away.
I'm the same way. I was wandering the house last night. Barfy meds night and I was feeling icky!!
I so would have been happy to bake with you...no sleep means extra time to get things done for me. Of course no sleep also means I'm seriously tired and grumpy....
Hope you got some rest!!
Crystal, I almost called you last night. Right before I went to bed, I watched your Friday Funny. When I got in the bed I turned the t.v. on and found a Chris Farley Saturday Night Live Special on t.v. I got the giggles and thought of you!!! Love ya,
I'm so sorry you didn't have your drugs...I guess that's one of the good things about having no more babies. Too bad the good things out weigh the bad things. Ahhh...babies...mmmm...love em. I'm so excited for you! It won't be long before that little lima bean is here.
Floozy
Um... I am the exact opposite of you. The second my head hits the pillow or the couch cushion I'm out, more like dead to the world. I don't even hear my son when he wakes up. ;) Sorry you can't sleep though, that sucks!
More baking! Seriously so impressive. Toffee is my favorite, hint hint!
Are you against taking Unisom while prego? I took it every night to help with nausea. Slept great too.
I'm gonna be making your sugar cookies today. We'll frost tomorrow, cause, please don't hold this against me, but I have absolutely no sprinkles in the house. I'll pick some up tomorrow, a whole boat load of em!
I was up I was up!!! You so can call me! And by the way, that ball is in YOUR court. You have my number!
I'm sorry you're struggling with sleep. If it helps, I took Benedryl during my pregnancies as ordered by my doctor. It really is okay. I have a real hang up about taking meds too when I am incubating, but I have a bigger hang up with not getting at least a little sleep. It's hard to be a mommy!
Oh, and I'm not a vampire. They scare me. :)
I am the queen of insomnia! I have always been that way. I have always been a night owl.
Even when pregnant I took the over the counter sleeping pills. My kids have all turned out great. Well I guess that is a matter of opinion. LOL But seriously, my Dr even tells you to take a 1/2 sleeping pill and a 1/2 of b6 for morning sickness, so it cant be all that bad right?
Your bakeathon sounds so fun and yummy! I have never made toffee before. I cant wait for the pictures, since that is all we are getting, I guess. HEEHEE
Yummy treats in the middle of the night!!!
Sleepless night are no fun. But there are a lot of weird infomercals on.
I am up always. I have always been a night owl and I don't even fight it. No sleep meds here ever. I figure that is my best time to get things done, because I hate mornings no matter how much sleep I get. WOW you are such a baker girl. You have inspired me to do more baking. I have always loved it but I hate the clean up. Love the taste testing though. LOL
oh my I am sorry about the marathon insomnia...what is up with that? I have 3 closest friends suffering from it. Oh my those HORMONES or whatever it is. Sleep is soooo necessary. I hope you feel better and somehow rest. I can't believe all the baking you are doing. I guess I haven't done baking in such a long time, that everything sseems so unsormountable. I might be getting the bug to do danish pastries...I was soo good at them, but it has been years and years. So I think i STAYED up till 3 the other day and was a wreck the next day...although i have to finish up christmas cards and what not.
You are so LUCKY you got to go to the concert! I should have recorded it this morning.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot all about flannel boards. Post a picture!!!
I didn't know you were preggie!
I love love love Nanimo bars...maybe I should make them this week.
And how fun to hear about Bishop Hansen...they always had all the cool toys (and clothes) at their house when I was a kid, too.
i'll come help!! then i can see the toffee recipe for myself! ;)
counting your blessings is a good way to get to sleep!
Guess what? You CAN take Unisom in pregnancy. Trust me, I'm a nurse. If you're not sure, talk to your doc but Tylenol, Sudafed and Unisom are the three safe OTC's when you're prego. Sleep away, girlfriend!!
Oh...making your sugar cookies tonight. Can't wait!! :)
I so hear you about insomnia. I finally took some sleeping pills last night because I was on a week straight of no sleep. So if you are ever wondering the halls at night you can call me too. I'll be up.
Oh you can take Tylenol Simple Sleep. That is what my Dr. had me take when I was pregos with Garrik. Good luck sleeping!!
Crystal, I feel so rude, but today is the first time I have ever come to the realization that you're pregnant??!!!? You must have announced that fact a while ago in a post I obviously missed. Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS. And be sure to let me know when you post about that "most decadent" treat you mentioned. I sure wouldn't want to miss that one!
I have been away from my blog {I know} and when I stopped by I saw the count-down and was looking for the post when you fessed up to being pregnant! Congrats! :)
Hey there princess! I have been up too sweetie! Usually IM-ing Cecily ha ha ha! Call anytime also! Or we should all hook up so we can IM each other!
I was going to say Unisom too, & Nurse Nancy (cute Amy) beat me to it. When I lived in Colorado my doc had me take B vitamin & unisom together. It was actually to help with the nausea too! Good luck honey!
& let me know what I can do for ya!! I'm right here & would love to help out!
